Growing House Plants -
Light Requirements
House plants require a balanced
environment to ensure healthy growth. They may suffer and have a shock reaction
to your homes environment if it is different to what they have been used to.
Here are several tips to
help condition the plants to your environment.
All plants require light
to enable them to function correctly. The level of light that a plant requires
will depend on the type of plant it is. You should consult the care instructions
that came with the plant, or consult your local suppliers for specific advice.
Most interior locations
are not well lighted, and therefore will not be suitable for plants that require
plenty of sunshine. A conservatory will usually be the best location for any
plants like this. Select plants requiring medium to low light if you plan to
keep them in a room inside the house.
Allowing the house plants
some time outside in the summer is a great way to boost their health levels.
Remember that if the plant
it kept in one location facing one direction, its growth will cause it to lean
towards the light, therefore you should rotate the plant on a regular basis.
Keep a look out for things
like small leaves, long thin stems, lighter than normal colours in the foliage,
as these are all symptoms of insufficient light levels.
