Successful Overseeding
Technique
Annual overseeding will
improve a lawn significantly and make it much harder for weeds and moss to become
established.
Overseeding is not difficult,
and will help maintain and repair your lawns appearance. Autumn is the ideal
time to do any overseeding, the quick guide below should help:
- Rake the lawn thoroughly
to remove the old grass and other debris.
- Spike the surface of the
affected area with a hand or garden fork.
- Overseeding uses the sowing
technique you might use for creating a new lawn, a mix of about one handful
of lawn seed per square metre or yard.
- Scatter a thin layer of
sifted soil over the top of the newly seeded area and firm down.
- You can protect the new
area of growth, from birds and other animals with the use of netting.
- Water the lawn seeds if
the weather is dry.
- Carefully mow the new
grass, when it is establish, avoid cutting it down too short.
If you find that the lawn
has quite a few patches that need repairing, take the trouble to try and find
the cause of the problem. It will to help avoid excessive maintenance in the
long term.
